Meet The Chef
Ardenia Brown is a personal chef born, reared and living in Bedford Stuyvesant, in Brooklyn, NY. She started cooking by her mothers' side as a young child, and through a lifetime of experiences has chosen to make the kitchen her stage. After years as an executive in the music industry, she has been fortunate to shift her creative energy to preparing healthy, flavorful meals for clients in the industry (and others) that accommodate often hectic, busy lifestyles.
Her recipes are often a blend of southern hospitality with a contemporary awareness of dietary considerations. She strives to inspire awareness that consuming healthful delicious meals is an experience beyond "just eating". Her intention, to nourish the mind, body and spirit of those she feels blessed to serve.
Ardenia Brown (Chef Butta) was most recently published in QUESTLOVE's "Mixtape Potluck". She was featured in the Living Legends Foundation - June 2019 Black Music Month
She is presently the personal chef to Ahmir Thompson aka QUESTLOVE.
"Soul food used to be a survival diet. Now it's haute cuisine. The same thing happened with hiphop, of course. We take what we like and make it a high-end product. Part of that trend is making healthier soul food and blending it with other influences. I have my own version of that process thanks to Ardinia, who has been my personal chef for a decade. She's not shielding me from the food of my youth. She's finding a version of it that works today. She updates and backdates all at the same time. Goodie Mob represented that idea well; they had one foot in traditional soul and another in the future. I sent her "Soul Food," the title track from their 1995 debut."
